The second annual Miss Mizik Mele Melange pageant will be held this year on September 27 at the Gaiety on Rodney Bay. Five ladies will be vying for the title. They are Tracy Norbal Latimore, Kayshia Verneuil, Jamelle Charlery, Lauryann Soochan and Mandy Leo. The contestants were drawn from Ti Rocher, Castries; La Toc, Castries; Agard Lands, Monchy, Laborie and Mon Repos.
Coordinator Mary William says that the pageant will once again stick to its focus of raising awareness and appreciation
particularly among young people for our Creole culture and heritage. “This is why the theme for this year is Kweyol la se sa nou. An nou anbwasy. (Creole is ours Let’s Embrace it,” she says.
The event will kick off with the Madrass carpet where patrons are being asked to wear the best Madrass outfit on the night. There is a special prize for the best outfit.
“There will also be a creole wedding display on the night by designer Sharlene Lagon on the night,” William told the STAR.
For the pageant itself the young ladies will appear in swimwear, creative wear, talent and speech. “At every pageant there is an interview segment, but we do not have that. Each contestant has been given a theme and on the night they will speak on it for 3-5 minutes in Creole,” William explained.
Contestants were chosen online followed by an audition earlier this year. The pageant affords the contestants the opportunity to become part of the rich Creole heritage.
Supporters of the event this year include Skyy Vodka, Memoire Consultants, Calabash TV, Travel Boutique and Hobies as sponsors of individual contestants. Other sponsors are Aliance Francaise, Piton Beer, ECCO, Auberge Seraphine, HTS, West Indies Shipping, First National Bank, NCB, SNO, Lucelec, St. Lucia Distillers, Valmont and Peter and Company.
French performer Ryco Loza from Martinique (of Gros Pwel fame) will be the special guest act on the night of the show.
