In preparation of the 2011 Season the St Lucia Calypso Association (2009) will hold a General Meeting on Saturday April 16 to update its members on new initiatives for the 2011 Carnival Season. All members of the Association, especially calypsonians and soca artistes are asked to ensure that they are present at this important meeting, which takes place this Saturday April 16, from 1pm at the National Cultural Centre.
This is the first General Meeting of the SLCA 2009 since its elections of officers at the end of January. As such the meeting will also hear reports on the financial status of the SLCA 2009. And the Calendar of Activities for the rest of the current calypso year (which runs from Oct 2010 to Sept 2011)
As part of the meeting the SLCA 2009 will also be making presentations to 3 members who suffered damage during the passage of Hurricane Tomas. On February 26 as part of Independence celebrations, the Association held its annual fundraiser Kaiso Bouillion to raise funds to assist members affected. Since then a “Good Fund” has been established. The presentations totalling $4000 will be made during the meeting on Saturday.
The SLCA 2009 also intends to recognize the following members who are celebrating milestones in 2011: namely Dycer Fontellio and Kelly “Dr J” Winters (South Tent) for ten years in Calypso, 25 Years in Calypso: Sylvester “Herb Black” Lewis (Take Over Tent)Desmond “Mighty Pep” Long (Ambassadors) and 30 Years in Calypso: Cyril “Get Thru” Felix (Take Over Tent)
The SLCA 2009 encourages all members to attend this important meeting this Saturday April 16, 2011 at 1pm at the National Cultural Centre. Members are also reminded that this Saturday is the deadline for payment of annual membership subscriptions. The first calypso tent for the 2011 Season will open its doors on Saturday May 21 at the National Cultural Centre.
