Lamar Odom dropped a reported $75,000 during the weekend brothel binge that left him in a medically induced coma Thursday.
The former Los Angeles Lakers forward showed small signs of progress — squeezing his estranged wife Khloe Kardashian’s hand in a Las Vegas hospital and briefly fluttering his eyelids. Other members of the Kardashian clan boarded a jet after a two-day vigil, leaving Khloe behind by herself.
A first round of dialysis seemed to improve his kidney function as the longtime NBA vet recovered from his self-inflicted wounds.
Despite the tiny glimmers of hope, Odom remained in critical condition at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas two days after he was discovered unconscious by two prostitutes at the Love Ranch brothel.
Several members of the Kardashian and Jenner clan were seen on Thursday leaving the hospital, where tests over the next several days, including MRIs, would determine if the Queens native and former Los Angeles Laker’s 50-50 chance of survival would be upgraded.
Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, along with Kyle, Kendall and Kris Jenner, exited the facility together and boarded a private jet without the shell-shocked Khloe Kardashian, photos show.
“They were worried about his kidneys,” a source at the hospital told The News on Wednesday. “They were failing today, but they gave him dialysis. His doctors think he could be OK,” the source said with caution.”He is still critical, in ICU. So, anything can happen.”
Doctors believe Odom’s kidney failure is the result of his alleged drug use, and not caused by hypertension — high blood pressure — or diabetes, which are common natural causes of kidney failure, the source said. Kidney damage and loss of function caused by drugs or trauma can improve over time.
“It would be weeks, maybe months,” before the extent of the kidney damage can be fully determined, the source explained.
Odom, who is estranged from reality star Khloe Kardashian, was found unresponsive at a bungalow suite at the Love Ranch Vegas in Crystal, Nev., on Tuesday. He was first rushed to a hospital in Pahrump, Nev., which is about a half hour’s drive from Crystal.
From Pahrump, Odom was driven by ambulance to Sunrise Hospital’s trauma center in Las Vegas. The original plan was to fly Odom to Las Vegas by helicopter, but he was too tall to fit in the helicopter.
Kardashian family members, including Khloe, her sister Kim Kardashian and mother Kris Jenner, were at Sunrise Hospital, as was Odom’s father, Joe Odom. Khloe Kardashian and Joe Odom were making decisions about his son’s medical care, according to the source. Odom, 35, and Kardashian, 31, married in 2009 and separated in 2013. They are still finalizing their divorce. After Odom appeared on television’s “Keeping up With the Kardashians,” the newlyweds spun off their own series, “Khloe and Lamar.”
The two later split amid reports of infidelity and drug use on the part of Odom. But Kardashian has publicly said she would always care about Odom.
