Managing director of Star Publishing, Mae Wayne, has been lamenting the fact that as we celebrate Nobel Laureate Week, the island has no proper bookstore. This in spite of one of this island’s laureates, Derek Walcott, being a writer and the other, Sir Arthur Lewis, having been published. In light of this STAR Publishing Company is now distributing for wholesale, and offering for retail, a wide selection of books. On offer is a range from different genres such as children’s books, adult fiction, poetry and self-help.
High on the list are a number of titles from our amazing local authors such as Kendel Hippolyte, Garth St. Omer, John Robert Lee, Jane King, Rick Wayne and, of course, Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott. You also don’t want to miss out on publications from around the region like the award-winning books ‘The Whale House’ by Sharon Millar, ‘As Flies to Whatless Boys’ by Robert Antoni and ‘Suspended Sentences’ by Mark McWatt.
There are also children’s favourites: ‘The Gruffalo’, ‘The Snail and the Whale’, ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’, ‘The Harry Potter’ series and ‘The Fault in Our Stars’. In the coming weeks and months the STAR aims to unveil other events including reading nights, book signings and spoken word events. And so as we celebrate Nobel Laureate Week the STAR urges everyone to get in the habit of reading. Contact us or come view our selection at The Yard.
