St Lucian youth selected for Int’l Youth Leadership Forum

Canaries native and youth leader Vernet Longville will soon be taking the trip of a lifetime to Lyon in France to represent Saint Lucia and the Caribbean at a prestigious international youth forum. Longville, a teacher at the Canaries Infant School, has been selected to take part as a Sacred Sports Foundation (SSF) youth leader and organiser for the street football world International Youth Forum, as part of the massive Festival 16 event.

This all-expenses-paid unique opportunity is supported by the German Foreign Ministry and the SSF with whom she has volunteered for a number of years.

Vernet Longville will help to organise street football.

The International Youth Forum runs from June 28th to July 7th, 2016, during which time Longville will learn new organisational skills and jointly help support the implementation of the Festival.

Street football world’s Festival 16 will bring together 500 girls and boys from disadvantaged communities all over the globe, chosen not for their skills on the pitch but rather their commitment to changing the world through football.

At the core of the event is an exciting football 3 tournament – a unique way of playing the game that incorporates key life lessons into every match. Educational workshops and cultural workshops will also feature prominently, enabling the young participants to develop new skill sets and apply them in their local communities.

Sacred Sports Foundation was accepted for membership in 2013 and remains the only member of the network in the English-speaking Caribbean.
