[dropcap]I[/dropcap]believe we are the sum total of all our experiences: good and bad. Armed with such knowledge I am quick to spot a bully by his words as well as by his actions. However, it took some time to learn that bullies are secretly cowards. Regular people, by which I mean to say reasonable, kind and gentle folk should avoid a bully, whether by the words or actions. Perhaps his constant threats, more than his imbecilic politics (we need not go into his leadership style, or his complete lack of management skills, for which he has paid dearly) are what have made me most angry with the Vieux Fort South MP. I might’ve taken a kinder approach to his obvious shortcomings, but for his bullying tactics that say so much about the man. I should also say I’ve learned never to permit bullies to have their way, for obvious reasons.
When the mentioned MP gave his “promise” at the conclusion of his most recent budget contribution that Prime Minister Allen Chastanet “will reap the whirlwind of his actions” if he proceeds with an investigation of certain stated matters, what exactly did he mean? My first thoughts (like Rick Wayne’s) turned to the 1998 Blom-Cooper Commission of Enquiry, which was set up by the Vieux Fort South MP and former PM, to investigate, among other things, a road which was built through the Mangue with the help of the Senior Minister Sir John Compton, and Prime Minister Dr Vaughan Lewis. Another road built for the residents of upper New Dock Road, overlooking Vieux Fort East was also investigated. I wonder how many new roads were built in the years when the MP for Vieux Fort South was prime minister—and at what cost.
More importantly, why did the MP drag the Chastanet family into his political mud-fest during the last general election? Now that Chastanet the younger is prime minister, why shouldn’t he demand an apology from the Vieux Fort South MP and former prime minister for his government’s mismanagement of the national economy? Should Allen Chastanet demand detailed information as to how the last administration spent Taiwanese funds? How did these funds benefit the nation after they were deposited into a so-called “special account”? What has become of that special account? These are some questions the voters of fair Helen would like answered.
And speaking of questions and answers: should Saint Lucians be demanding to know whether Walid Juffali donated monies toward the promised but unrealized diabetes research centre? If yes, whatever happened to these funds?
By the way, if anyone accused me of driving a vehicle he believed was financed by someone other than myself, my last reaction would be to accuse my accuser of what he had accused me of, if only on the sound basis that two wrongs cannot make a right! A word to the wise!
