For the first time in its 23-year history the Saint Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival will see the participation of the fishing community of Anse La Raye with a formidable lineup of local acts that promises to marry perfectly with the seafood twist for which the community has become known.
Albert Joseph, President of the Anse La Raye Vendors Association – the organizing team behind the inaugural event – said the undertaking comes in partnership with the Saint Lucia Tourist Board and Caribbean Premier League.
The Anse La Raye playing field will serve as the home for the inaugural festival dubbed “Rhythms of the West – Anse La Raye Jazz” on May 3, 2015.
Anse La Raye has a rich culture in music and arts with Mrs Petronila Deterville playing a significant role in the musical history of both the community and nation.
“We believe Mrs Deterville, who died in 2010, would be proud of this dream actually coming to fruition. We have come a long way in the arena of music and entertainment in the community and we are excited to share this culture in this format with Saint Lucians and visitors,” Joseph said.
Headlining this highly anticipated musical spectacle will be Ricky-T, Invader and the Overdrive Band, West Coast Band from Anse La Raye and Youth on Fire Ministry, among others.
According to Joseph, there is a strong emphasis in promoting local talent in
this first festival as part of efforts to reinforce and re-emphasize the talent that is Saint Lucian.
The show starts promptly at 4:00pm and tickets are priced at EC$30 in advance (EC$35 at the gate) and are available from any member of the Anse La Raye Vendors Association.
