St Lucia’s reigning Lightweight National Amateur Boxing champion, two time gold medalist at the Creole boxing championships and senior Boxer of the Year for 2010 Dalton “ the Hurricane” George, returned to the island Sunday afternoon after participating on a boxing card in Guadeloupe Saturday evening put on by the Minami Boxing Club of Guadeloupe.
Hurricane George controversially lost the main event bout to Guadeloupian Joseph George on points. Hurricane George was very offensive during the bout with solid jabs and uppercuts. When the decision was announced it did not go down well with the fans at the arena on the night. The St Lucian boxer was accompanied to Guadeloupe by Coach Conrad Fredericks.
Local Boxing Association officials have expressed disappointment with the defeat of George, especially as from all reports he won the fight but it was controversially awarded to his opponent.
The local boxing association says this will not damper George and their efforts in continuing to spread the sport island wide and in providing much needed exposure to the many young up and coming boxers on the island. The association will continue to expose its boxers to as many regional opportunities as possible to improve on their craft in the sport of amateur boxing.
