International Beach Volleyball of the highest calibre takes place here from October 26-28 along the shoreline by the beautiful and historic Pigeon Island National Landmark.
St Lucians are in for a treat not only because of Jounen Kweyol which takes place this weekend, but simply due to the fact this NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour includes players from several countries (including) St Lucia competing at a high level. The following countries are expected to compete: United States, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Anguilla, Barbados, Santa Domingo, Grenada, Aruba, Panama, St Kitts and French St Marten. There are categories for men and women.
St Lucia will be represented in both divisions. The men’s pairs team consists of Julian Biscette/Joseph Clercent and Dane Wiliams/Gillan Octave. The women’s team consists of Dania Hamilton/Samantha Mann and Jamilla Lansiquot/Indira Laurencin.
Biscette and Clercent who are a dominant force in volleyball indoors and out, are currently in eighth position in the NORCECA rankings. Williams and Octave have also exceled indoors and will be looking to transform their game to sand.
Hamilton and Mann are a familiar combination in beach volleyball, having played together in several competitions. However, due to various commitments they have not played together for quite some time.
This dynamic pair is currently 16th in the NORCECA rankings. Like their male counterpart they look forward to delivering glory and excitement for St Lucians and spectators alike on the local stage of the NORCECA beach circuit.
St Lucia’s other female pairs team of Lansiquot and Laurencin are making their debut together in beach volleyball. Hopefully it will be a successful one.
NORCECA President, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz has assigned top officials to a Control Committee which will supervise and guide this major tournament. They will work alongside the St Lucia Volleyball Association (SLVA) Organizing Committee Chaired by SLOC President, Brian Louisy.
Beach Volleyball Coordinator of the St Lucia Volleyball Association, Hervon Brown says things are moving well and the turnout is a tribute to the ambassadorial work of the National Beach Volleyball Players, who have done a great job in enticing their fellow players on the tour to come to St Lucia.
The public is invited to come and out exciting beach volleyball action which gets underway on Friday from 10 am to 6:00 pm. There is special seating to accommodate spectators in a glorious setting with the sea as a background.
