Big Players end on high note

Players with Aux Lyon United (l) and Big Players battle for ball possession.

Having already wrapped up the 2013 Premiere League Football title just over a week ago Big Players of Marchand had nothing to play for, nevertheless the team won their closing match 1-0 over Aux Lyon United of Mabouya Valley Sunday at the Sab Sporting Facility.

Former National Under-23 player Justin Escobar St Clair, scored the lone goal midway through the first half which ended up being the game winner.  A red card issued to a player from Aux Lyon in the first half, left the team shorthanded most the game.

In another game plyed on the Canaries Playing Field, Challengers defeated VSADC 3-1. Goals for the winning side came courtesy of Brian Tisson, Dabreau Henry and Leslie Shepherd.

Steve Henry who scored the lone goal for VSDAC, was later only shown a red card in the encounter.

For Coach of the Big Players football and former national player Alvin Xavier,  it was not easy sailing all the way. He admitted there were issues with the team’s technical staff that had to be resolved.

He said: “Well I figured the technical staff we gave them an ultimatum, because we know we are always close but because of our own issues we are not taking the prize. So we told them if this year they could not step up and do it our way they could leave and go somewhere else. I guess one or two players left and those who stayed were really serious about taking Big Players to the next level.”

Following the game Big Players received their trophy and medals in a very low key ceremony hardly fitting for a championship team.
