Sunday’s Run 758 Golden Mile Race turned into a golden moment for the overall winner Michael “Mega Boost” Biscette. The race organized by President of the Young Achievers Sports Club, Kahlid Pompey began shortly after 6:30 am from the start line at the Vigie Roundabout. From there, runners made their way south along the John Compton Highway to the finish line near the Ministry of Home Affairs building.

Michael “Mega Boost” Biscette on his way to the finish line with Jason Sayers in pursuit.

On the onset this was clearly a two man race between Biscette and Jason Sayers. They are among the cream of the crop when it comes to middle and long distance races. Both were neck and neck most of the way, until Sayers took a slight lead approaching the Sans Souci Bridge. They continued running side by side but with about 200 metres to go Biscette made his move. He took the lead and never looked back for fear Sayers was hot on his heels. That was not the case! Biscette sprinted across the finish line covering the distance in 7:10.00.

Commenting on the race Biscette said: “It was both a Golden Mile and a golden moment for me. I won this race three years ago. My aim this time around was to just go out and give it my best. I did not go for time but just wanted to run a smart race and win. Really and truly I know Jason very well. He is a guy with a lot of speed. I myself I train mostly for 10k’s, 15k’s and half marathons so I am not really a speed kind of guy. I went out with him (Jason) and kept up with him till the end, then I pushed in the last 200 metres and got the win over him.”

Shirniah Emmanuel was the first female to cross the finish line.
