A Monster Mash! You could say so as St Lucian boxers landed punishing blows at the Independence Boxing Championships last weekend at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.
The two-day event sponsored by Monster Energy, attracted boxers from Antigua and Barbuda and Grenada along with the host country St Lucia. Dominica and St Vincent were no shows.
It was a highly successful competition for local boxers. St Lucia finished in the medal count with four gold medals and one silver.

In a lightweight affair, 2010 Senior Boxer of the year Dalton “The Hurricane” George, over powered Grenada’s Timothy Stephen 8-3 on points in a lightweight contest.
The other St Lucian Gold Medal winners were the dreadlocked Arthur Langilier on his debut. He thumped tough talking Antiguan Karl Warner 4-1 on points in a middleweight contest.
In a heavyweight showdown, crowd favorite Bert Regis won St Lucia’s fourth gold medal which
he shared with opponent Garvin Grant (Antigua and Barbuda). The bout went the distance (three rounds) and when it was over they tied on ponts 7-7. Organizers decided to give both fighters a gold medal.
The silver medal for St Lucia came courtesy of Elton Octave who lost to Wynton Phillips (Antigua and Barbuda) in the lightweight division.
