Boxing team for Barbados announced

The newly elected St Lucia Amateur Boxing Association’s (SLABA’s) executive has already begun working and putting in place things which will serve for the betterment of the sport of amateur boxing on the island.
To this end, the executive has established a number of committees who will be responsible for various aspects relating to the development amateur boxing in St Lucia. The Association has put in place a technical committee which comprises George Alfred, Ray John (head coach of the Vieux Fort Boxing Gym), Julie Bonnet, Robert Joseph, acting head coach Conrad Fredericks and his assistant Darius Cetoute.
There is a Training and Officials Committee made up of Bonnet and Joseph, a Publicity Committee including Brian Mc Donald and Pamela Alexander and a Fundraising Committee consisting of David Papin, David Christopher, Pamela Alexander, Lucy Charles Goodman, Tennyson Glasgow and two parents of the boxers.
Meantime the SLABAT has tentatively selected a squad of seven boxers and three officials to travel to Barbados, for a regional boxing card there from December 6-8. The card is being put on by the Amateur Boxing Association of Barbados to celebrate 35 years in Boxing.
St Lucia’s team selected for Barbados consists of the following boxers: Lyndell Marcellin, Kyghan Mortley, Arthur Langillier, Ron Bastien, Travis Maynard, Joshua Duberry and Joshua Brown.
Travelling with the team to Barbados is expected to be Acting Head Coach, Conrad Fredericks; First Vice President of the SLABA,  Julie Bonnet; and Joseph “Reds” Perreira.
The SLABA is also hoping to send a team to the Fourth Annual Creole Boxing Championships taking place in Cayenne French Guyana around the same time.
In addition, the association is continuing to put plans in place for two major road show exhibitions later this month, There is the “Valley Punch Out” in Mabouya Valley on November 11. The other road show exhibition is scheduled for November 24 at the Vigie Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, where a contingent of boxers from Guadeloupe is expected to be on the card for the evening. We wish them luck in their endeavors!
