As St Lucia gets ready to host two major regional boxing events later this year, the St Lucia Amateur Boxing Association (SLABA) has named a strong 19 man training squad in preparation for the upcoming tournaments.
St Lucia will host the OECS Boxing Championships from May 31 to June 2 and the Creole Boxing Championships from July 24-28.
The 19 man training squad named includes two British based boxers: Middleweight Marvin Anthony who has already joined the training squad and Heavyweight Ryan Charles, who is expected to join the training squad shortly.
The rest of the squad consists of Lindell “The Russian” Marcellin, Kyghan “The Hitman” Mortley, Arthur Langelier, Dalton “The Hurricane” George, Miguel Auguste, Ron Bastien, Alex Poyotte,Travis Maynard, Heslie Louis, Trevon Lynch, Nyran David, Yenic Leon, Ralphic Roberts and John Pompey.
Also included in the training squad are teenaged boxers Joshua Brown and Joshua Duberry along with Adrian Brad Louis for experience, as they are earmarked for participation in upcoming youth championships regionally and internationally. The team will be under the watchful eyes of Coach Conrad Frederick.
In other related news, the (SLABA) takes it’s road show exhibition program to the east coast this Saturday evening, as part of the fish fry activities in the village of Dennery starting from 8p.m. All the boxers named on the St Lucia National Boxing training squad will be on show at that Road Show, as they fine tune their preparations for the two upcoming major boxing events to be staged here later this year.
