The number of individuals arrested in Saint Lucia for breaking the curfew to date is now 56. Last week Acting Corporal Ann Joseph, Public Relations Officer of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, disclosed that 30 persons had been arrested from March 27 to April 13.
Speaking at a press briefing today, Joseph disclosed: “In the last week, we’ve had 26 new arrests for persons violating the curfew order and that brings our total in two weeks to 56.”
Here is the breakdown of the 26 new arrests:
-April 16: 1 individual “caught riding his motorcycle” in Dennery
-April 17: 1 individual in Castries
-April 17: 14 individuals in Babonneau
-April 18: 10 individuals in Babonneau
The public is reminded that a daily curfew is still in effect from 7:00pm to 5:00am.
The curfew is included in the Emergency Powers (Disasters) (COVID 19) (Curfew)(No. 2) Order. It states: “A person who contravenes this Order commits an offence and is liable to imprisonment with or without hard labour for a term not exceeding six months, or a fine not exceeding $1000 or both, and forfeiture of goods or money in respect of which the offence has been committed.”
