Senator Guibion Ferdinand has been endorsed by the executive of the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) again to be the candidate for the Micoud South constituency. Per data from the Electoral Department, current MP Prime Minister Allen Chastanet received 2541 votes in the 2016 general elections, defeating Ferdinand who had 1409. Following his defeat at the polls, Ferdinand was sworn in as a senator.

Speaking to the STAR today, political leader of the SLP Philip J. Pierre said that the party’s constituency group had confidence in Ferdinand and submitted his name to the executive. “The party, after reviewing all the circumstances, thought that he should be the best person to run the Micoud South seat. We have full confidence in his ability. We think that he has served well in the Senate. He is a son of Micoud, he was the principal in the school; and we hope that the second time around he will be successful,” Pierre told the STAR.

To date the SLP has announced that Senator Joachim Henry, Emma Hippolyte, Wayne Girard and Alfred Prospere will contest Castries South East, Soufriere, Anse La Raye/Canaries and Dennery South respectively. In an address to the nation yesterday, Pierre declared June 14 2020 “the commencement of the SLP’s election campaign to offload the burden of the UWP government from the backs of the people of Saint Lucia.”
