Jeremiah Norbert is the latest addition to the Saint Lucia Labour Party’s (SLP) slate of candidates for the upcoming general election. He will contest Micoud North— a stronghold of the incumbent United Workers Party, and the former constituency of Sir John Compton.
The party made the announcement on Sunday night during its annual Conference of Delegates. Norbert made brief remarks during the online event: “I want to say to them [the youth] today, there is hope in the leadership of Philip J. Pierre and the SLP. Our party has always put you first and will continue to do so…Make no mistake, we are putting you first!”
Per figures from the Electoral Department, current Micoud North MP, Dr. Gale Rigobert, received 1930 votes in the 2016 general election, defeating the SLP’s Herbert Roserie who had 885. Independent candidate Jeannine Compton-Antoine garnered 787.
The party has not named candidates for Castries Central and Castries North.
