Today, Tuesday October 20, 2020, The Ministry of Health has received confirmation of one new case of COVID-19. This brings the total number of cases to thirty-seven (37). The individual is a 43 year old male from Gros-Islet. During the contact tracing process he was identified as linked to cases thirty-three and thirty-four and was tested and placed in quarantine. He has now been isolated for care at the Respiratory Hospital.

With these newly diagnosed cases, all efforts are being made to rapidly respond in order to contain further spread of infection. The Ministry of Health is grateful for the support which has been provided to our public health team undertaking contact tracing and community-based interventions. This partnership is important in our national COVID-19 response.

The Ministry of Health takes the opportunity to again remind the public to adhere to the recommended infection, prevention and control measures.

-Ensure a mask is always used while in public
-Follow the floor markers in public spaces to maintain the recommended physical distance. Where floor markers are not available as a guide, the separation from the next person should be about two arm’s length apart
-Wash and sanitize hands often throughout the day
-If experiencing flu-like symptoms seek medical care immediately at the closest respiratory clinic

The Ministry of Health and Wellness will continue providing updates as new information becomes available.
