The Catholic Church in Saint Lucia will host the 4th Antilles Episcopal Conference Youth Assembly (AECYA) from 19th to 30th July 2012. Approximately 1000 youth from throughout the Caribbean region are expected to attend. The purpose of the assembly is to put the youth at the forefront, helping young adults re-affirm their Catholic identity, build friendships and experience the wider church.
Members of the Choiseul Parish, in particular the Parish youth group, are busy preparing to host a contingent of 40 of the young Catholics in their community. They have planned a number of activities for the youth pilgrims, one of which is a Choiseul Parish Teen Pageant. The highly anticipated teen pageant will take place on Saturday 30th June 2012 at the Old Boys School at Reunion Choiseul.
The launch of the teen pageant was held at the Palm Haven Hotel where the STAR got a chance to meet the eight contestants that will be participating in the pageant under the AECYA theme ‘The Word of God shaping the lives of our Youth.”
The contestants are: Earlyca Fredrick, Joselle Cooper, Dermisha Theodore, Kellyann Lamontagne, Naomi Jean, Diana Pierre, Steffi Alexander, Zania Lawrenson.
The following is a brief description of the contestants:
Dermisha Theodore: Fourteen-year-old Dermisha says ‘I put my best foot forward in all that I do and believe I can achieve all my goals.” As a vibrant community member she is always ready to engage in social activities and belongs to various groups such as Peer Helpers, Girl Guides and the Choiseul Youth Group and ‘Chosen Stones: Builders for Christ.’
Jozel Cooper: Fifteen-year-old Jozel loves setting goals and working towards achieving them. She is currently the President of the Young leaders club at the Choiseul Secondary School and a member of the Peer Helpers, Science Club and the church youth group. Her education is very important to her and she has high hopes of becoming a Criminal Justice Lawyer.
Diana Pierre: Fifteen-year- old Diana believes family is very important and loves spending quality time with her siblings, cousins and other relatives. That is when she is not busy cooking up a feast in the kitchen or reading an interesting novel. She has a passion for modeling and is photogenic.
Earlyca Fredrick: Thirteen- year-old Earlyca is a charismatic and ambitious girl, with a love of performing arts from the young age of three she participated in and won the Reunion Preschool pageant. She is also a member of the school choir and states that it brings her great pleasure to use her God given talents to help her parish raise funds.
Steffi Alexander: Fifteen-year-old Steffi is a persistent individual who always has her mind set to excel to higher heights. She has a strong appreciation of natural beauty and often enjoys watching the sun rise and set from the horizon. She likes engaging in extracurricular activities which will expose her to a wide variety of new skills.
Kelly Ann Lamontagne: Thirteen year old Kelly Anne is a member of the Choiseul Youth Group and knows that developing spiritually is a very important virtue of a person and she wishes to build her confidence and assertiveness as she takes part is this pageant as well as contributing meaningfully to the Lady of Lourdes Parish Choiseul.
Zania Lawrencien: Nineteen -year-old Zania is a talented and enthusiastic individual who will do anything to fulfill her dream of being a entrenpeneur. She ventured from choiseul in order to persue an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. She enjoys acting, dance and meeting new people.
Naomi Jean: Sixteen-year-old Naomi is an energetic, intelligent and creative. She strives for success and is always ready to take on a challenge. she enjoys dancing, modeling and singing. She sees herself soaring high as an air hostess.
