THE CHAMBER MOURNS THE PASSING OF CHRIS “BUNKER” HUSBANDS

Christian Husbands who was an active member of the Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he sudden passing of former President and incumbent 1st Vice President of the Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Christian Ferrer Irving Husbands, is a most difficult heart loss, one with which the institution will have difficulty coming to grips.

Christian served as a Chamber board member for over eight years, two of which he served as President, bringing his quiet, yet determined composure and balance to his every effort. His personable and affable manner permitted him to reach all whom he met, as he treated all with the same intimate respect and dignity, regardless of station. His quiet disposition and sharp wit were accompanied by an inquisitive mind and caring heart.

He had a passion for the agricultural sector, which he lamented; Saint Lucia was ignoring and not taking advantage of the tremendous and numerous opportunities which he saw. He served as the manager and representative for Union Vale Estate, which allowed him to stay close to the sector which he understood and loved and in which he had been privately involved in his earlier days.

His deep sense of community drove him to ensure that the Chamber maintained a corporate social responsibility agenda through its Junior Achievement, Sports Programme and St. Lucia Youth Business Trust. He ensured the latter was established while he served as President of the Chamber. He assumed, without hesitation, the role of Chairman of Junior Achievement in 2012 and led the organisation with exquisite aplomb, winning him and Junior Achievement

St. Lucia the respect and accolades of other programmes in the region and of Junior Achievement International.

Christian leaves behind an outstanding and impressive legacy of programmes which he championed and initiated in many spheres of endeavour including youth development, sports, education, community development, business, banking, health and private sector development.

The Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture, Junior Achievement St. Lucia and the St. Lucia Youth Business Trust have lost a great supporter and champion. His wonderful personality and staunch character have left an indelible mark on all with which  he was involved.

Christian leaves behind a loving family, relatives and many friends. We have all lost a dear and loving friend. The world is a lesser place for his departure. He will be remembered.

Fare thee well our friend.
