[dropcap]C[/dropcap]astries, January 31, 2018 – Officers attached to the City Police Department spent their Sunday sprucing up the Marchand Combined School.

This is the first in a series of planned beautification projects by the department with the objective to reduce crime, promote ownership of the neighborhood among its residents, promote productive partnerships and provide a safe area for youths.

Over 10 officers from the 42 strong department took part in the exercise which involved power washing the walls of the institution, de-bushing the surroundings and clearing the debris for transportation to the Deglos Sanitary Landfill.

“This project is extremely important to us from a community relations perspective,” said Sergeant Yone Camchon.

“We completed this project despite our regular policing duties. We hope to undertake at least one beautification project every month. While we carry the mandate to serve and protect, it is really important that we improve the public perception by showing the community a different side to law enforcement.”

Other institutions and communities will benefit from the project in the coming months.
