Claudia Wows ’Em!

What was supposed to be just a regular night out last Saturday, where I thought I would lend my support to one of the hardest working entertainers with my presence, turned out to be a truly amazing evening. Beyond my expectations really! The occasion was the launch of the new album by Claudia Edward at The Landings where guests were asked to wear white and gold. That, too, I underestimated as attendees not only stuck to the theme but the dress code had me thinking that the Jazz & Arts Festival had started earlier this year. Sir Derek Walcott, the consultant in the Ministry of Creative Industries Christopher Hunte and UWP Political leader Allen Chastanet were among the special invitees at a pre-event press briefing where we were taken through Claudia’s musical journey – then till now. Larry Bain played the role of raconteur.

Claudia also thanked those who had made the journey possible as well as her sponsors, some of whom were presented with gift packages including her latest CD. All of this while guests sipped on JP Chenet from St. Lucia Distillers, one of the sponsors of the evening.

Later that evening guests were shuttled beachside at The Landings to join others who had showed up to see and hear the diva deliver an amazing live performance at the “free” event.

With quite an overwhelming turnout, fans enjoyed Chairman’s Reserve cocktails while witnessing the live performance of tracks from the album ‘On The Edge’ as well as some throwbacks like ‘Sha La La’; Claudia was joined by performer TC Brown on that one.

Claudia’s repertoire with the band included some edgy pop rock tunes, R&B, ballads and Caribbean infused rhythms (mainly her originals), captured by the band with great precision.

Later, guests who had purchased copies of the CD had them autographed by the singer while they engaged her in friendly chatter and, of course ,many photo opportunities.

The interaction of guests, fans, invitees – call them what you want- as well as the satisfied look on their faces completed the story of the night. Claudia “The Diva” Edward had taken them ‘On The Edge’ and back and left them wanting more.
