Courts St. Lucia Honoured for Outstanding Contribution to the Education Sector

Local furniture and electrical superstore Courts has been singled out as an outstanding contributor to the education sector. This pronouncement was made at the official annual National Awards ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Labour, held on Tuesday January 19th 2016.

Courts St. Lucia is known to take its role as market leader very seriously through the many corporate social responsibility ventures undertaken by the company over the years. One such initiative is the annual and popular “Courts Schools Reading Competition” held at the primary school level for students between the ages of eight and nine years old across the OECS. The competition, which is in its eighth year, is organized by Courts in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Labour. The Courts Schools Reading Competition, which encourages reading among the youth, assesses fluency, accuracy, enunciation, pronunciation, smoothness, confidence and expression of the participants.

The National Awards ceremony, held under the theme “Celebrating Excellence: Transforming Lives”, saw in attendance dignitaries including Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, Governor General of Saint Lucia; The Honourable Minister for Education, Human Resource Development and Labour, Dr Robert Lewis and the Honourable Minister for Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations, Alvina Reynolds.

The company would also like to thank the principals and teachers at the primary school level across the island. The success of the Courts Schools Reading Competition is a direct result of the determination and willpower of the students participating; without them, this competition would not have been possible.
