The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs today Thursday September 2, 2021, confirms 220 new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed at the Ezra Long Laboratory on Wednesday September 1, 2021 from a batch of 648 samples. These cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 8542.
The Ministry of Health also reports two new COVID-19 deaths. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in country is 76 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 32. COVID-19 death #75 is a 79 year old male from the Gros-Islet district. COVID-19 death #76 is a 48 year old male from the Castries district. The Ministry of Health sympathizes with the families, friends and loved ones of these gentlemen.
Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 152 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 bringing the total number of active cases in country to date to 2053. Currently, two of the active cases are in critical care at the Respiratory Hospital.
The Government of Saint Lucia is continuing to manage the fourth COVID-19 wave and therefore ask that the public adhere to the protocols stipulated. Individuals are also encouraged to get vaccinated to protect themselves and others from the virus. To date 34, 901 individuals have received the first dose of the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 27, 942 have received the second dose. For the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine 3, 175 individuals have received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine and 71 individuals for the second dose.
Tomorrow Friday, September 3, 2021 the COVID-19 vaccine will be given at the Jacmel Wellness Center, the Gros-Islet Human Resource Center, the Soufriere Hospital and the St. Anthony’s Medical Center at Sunny Acres. The COVID-19 vaccine is also available at the various wellness centers around the island and this service is free of charge.
