Top Venezuelan cyclist Daniela Larreal will be the leading participant of a sports and recreational cycling activity to be held here on October 6.
The event is being spearheaded by the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in conjunction with the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Saint Lucia, the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports and the Saint Lucia Cycling Association.
It is anticipated to be a ride that will promote physical activity and sport, with a wide cross section of the Saint Lucian public being invited to register and participate. Larreal has been World, Central American, Pan American and South American champion, as well as winning the ALBA Games in Trinidad and Tobago and Cochabamba.
She also participated in the Tour de France, the European Community Tour, the Basque Country Tour, the Portugal Tour, the Brussels Grand Prix and five Olympic Games.
“With the realization of this activity we propose to support spaces that may reinforce togetherness amongst our peoples with new areas of common ground that may contribute to the development and strengthening of sports as a means of recreation, relaxation and physical activity, as well as the development of the human being and of family unity, with social well being as a guiding principle,” the Venezuelan Embassy said in a statement.
The ride is expected to start outside the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, William Peter Boulevard from 7:00 am and head to Pigeon Point and back. Participants are being invited to assemble as early as 6:00 am to allow for a prompt start.
