Dame Pearlette tops Common Entrance!

Two thousand, eight hundred and fifteen (2815) students wrote the Common Entrance Examination this year and waited anxiously for the results.  On Thursday the results were in and the island burst into celebration as two thousand, six hundred and ninety-five (2695) candidates were assigned to secondary schools.  One hundred and twenty candidates were unassigned, meaning their average composite scores do not fall within the range of scores for the secondary school of their choice.

According to the Ministry of Education’s synopsis of the exam results, the scores ranged from 13.33 percent to 95.67 percent with an average mean of 61.73 percent.  The performance was better than last year.  There was a 2.91 percent increase in the national mean this year from 2010 (58.82 percent).  However, the ministry is concerned with students’ lack of expression in writing and mathematics continues to be a challenging area for many.

There was a closer ratio of boys to girls this year.  Of the total number of candidates, one thousand, three hundred and eighty seven (1387) were male and one thousand, four hundred and twenty eight (1428) were female.

A total of sixty eight schools wrote this year’s exam.  Thirty six schools attained above the national mean; thirty were public schools, six were private.
Dame Pearlette Louisy Primary School has been deemed the top performing public school with a 72.27 percent mean average.  Following closely behind is the Camille Henry Memorial School with 72.12 percent and Grace Combined came in third with 71.48 percent.

Tapion led the way for the private schools, attaining a mean of 85.58 percent, Montessori Center followed with 85.49 percent and Bonne Terre Preparatory came in third with 81.02 percent.
The top performing student for 2011 is Jevon Charles from the Camille Henry Primary School who topped this year’s Common Entrance Exam with 95.67 percent.
