As the proud platinum sponsor of St. Lucia’s premier cultural product, Lucian Carnival, Digicel’s support continues to be far-reaching in all spheres of the art form. With the recently concluded Junior Carnival celebrations last weekend, Digicel’s Just Us Kids Carnival Band stood undefeated for the fifth consecutive year as Junior Carnival Band of the Year for 2015.
Just Us Kids for 2015 paraded with four hundred junior masqueraders strong in their portrayal of ‘Commercial Break’. Some of the sections included Digicel 4G, Festival, Pinehill, The Voice Newspaper, Farmers Choice, Ribena and 1st National Bank.
The Junior King costume “Robo Digi 4G” and the Junior Queen costume “The Extra-Ordinary Masquerader’ both captured the titles of Junior King of the Band and Junior Queen of the Band. Just Us Kids also walked away with second and third place in the Junior King of the Band costume category and second place Junior Queen of the band category. The winning streak further continued when Just Us Kids were announced as the first, second and third place winners in the category of ‘Individual of the Year’.
Digicel’s Marketing and Communications Executive Miss Louise Victor said, “Words cannot begin to express how elated the Digicel Team was when we received the fantastic news of our very own, Just Us Kids, walking away with the title of Junior Carnival Band for the fifth consecutive year. Such a winning streak is testimony of the understanding of our culture and the extent to which the Just Us Kids Team goes to ensure that St Lucian art form is protected. By exposing the kids to such an extraordinary part of our culture it serves as an opportunity to simultaneously educate them on how important it is to preserve the art form and also ensure that the cultural knowledge and rich St Lucian history is cascaded down through the generations.”
Digicel congratulates all participating Kiddies bands on coming out this year in support of the 2015 Carnival. Special congratulations to Just Us Kids Carnival Band and to Band Leader, Mr. Barry George and his team on yet another extraordinary year.
