Digicel St. Lucia, in its journey to continue supporting education and youth development, once again provided scholarships to children around the island who were successful at the Common Entrance Examinations. The successful students each received a monetary donation towards the purchase of their much-needed supplies plus they each received a school bag, lunch bag, pencil cases and exercise books for the new upcoming school year.
Under the Digicel Scholarship programme, staff members were given the opportunity to nominate hard-working successful students from their community who were most deserving of a scholarship from Digicel. Digicel staff members will be required to accompany the students whom they have nominated to purchase their school supplies. This year, the Digicel Scholarship programme will be extended up to a 5 year period, providing the students maintain an average of sixty percent pass rate at the end of each school year.
Digicel presented the scholarships to the students who were joined by their parents at the awards ceremony, hosted at Palm Haven Hotel. Digicel’s cricket endorsee Johnson Charles, a member of the West Indies Cricket Team, was present to encourage and inspire the students who received the scholarships.
Digicel’s Country Manager Mrs. Siobhan James-Alexander, addressed the students congratulating them on succeeding at the Common Entrance Examination.
“Digicel understands the importance of each Saint Lucian child having an education especially for the future development of the country; it is because of this we continue to provide scholarships to those who need it the most and we are proud to say that Digicel has provided over hundreds of scholarships in the past years. We are committed to the people of Saint Lucia and we will continue to assist them in the future,” she exclaimed.
The management and staff of Digicel wish to congratulate all those who were successful at the 2015 Common Entrance Examinations and wish them all the best in the upcoming school term.
