The programme, which is now in its fourth year saw the 11successful students each receive financial support towards their schooling; additionally, they each received a school bag and exercise books for the new school year courtesy of Digicel.
The recent scholarship awards ceremony, which was held at the Palm Haven Hotel, saw Digicel’s cricket endorsee Johnson Charles, a member of the West Indies Cricket Team, present. He encouraged the students to continue working hard and giving their best.
Digicel’s Country Manager, Siobhan James-Alexander while addressing the students congratulated them on succeeding at the Common Entrance Examination. She said, “Digicel understands that each St. Lucian child having an education is important not just for them as individuals, but also for the future development of the country. For these reasons, we continue to provide scholarships to those who need it the most and we are proud to say that Digicel has awarded hundreds of scholarships over the years. We are committed to the people of St. Lucia and we will continue to assist them in the future.” James-Alexander further congratulated all the other successful candidates in the 2018 Common Entrance Examinations and wished them all the best in the upcoming school year.
Under the Digicel Scholarship programme, which started in 2015, staff members were given the opportunity to nominate hard working, successful students from their community who were most deserving of a scholarship from Digicel. The Digicel Scholarship programme is a five year scholarship, provided the recipients maintain an average of sixty percent at the end of each school year. The programme currently has 10 students from among the first cohort who are now on their way to form 4.
