Do it yourself sushi at Jade!

Chefs from the famous Nobu resturant treat Jade Mountain guests to some delights.

Guests at the Jade Mountain Resort were in for a delicious surprise this month when chefs from the Nobu Restaurant in Miami were flown down to St Lucia for a very special occasion—the first of its kind for the resort.
For the occasion executive chef of Nobu, Thomas Buckley, was on hand and guests got the chance to learn signature sushi recipes, but only after they were treated to scrumptious sushi and hors d’oeuvres at a meet and greet cocktail on Friday, March 18.
Saturday’s ‘sushi tutorial’ was held on the resort’s Celestial Terrace, a rooftop setting with an amazing view. The event was more fun than anything else for guests and chefs entertained even having competitions to see who could make sushi rolls faster.
Chef Thomas Buckley, Nobu himself was here as part of a promotion for his restaurant that is now a worldwide company with 23 restaurants in all. Buckley describes his cuisine as a mixture of modern and traditional Japanese food with Peruvian and European influences.
“It’s been great so far,” he told the STAR. “We did a couple menus on Friday night and greeted the guests with sushi and now it’s onto the rolling class. One of the dishes we made was a Spider Roll actually a soft shelled crab roll, also a couple Sashimi dishes, Yellowtail with Jalapeno and our signature dish Black Cod with Miso.”
Jade Mountain’s Executive Chef Jonathan Dearden says the event was a kick off for a series of events this year that will showcase different styles of cooking and cuisine from various chefs.
“This one went great, it was a lot of fun,” he said. “On Sunday we did a charity beach barbeque at Anse Mamin with Japanese Peruvian meets the Caribbean style cuisine. Half of the proceeds are going to Japan, for the earthquake relief.”
Dearden didn’t give a date for the next event, but Jade Mountain boasts four festivals a year, Mango Madness Festival, Cooking in Paradise, Spices of the Caribbean and the Jade Mountain Chocolate Festival so the next event will be intertwined with those.
