Eye Spy ~ Some Stories Best Untold!

True enough, charity begins at home. Or so said Sir Thomas Browne, back in 1642. But by “home” I doubt Sir Tom, who wrote Religio Medici, referred to a whole country. Few would complain about charity that is your own money, to do with as you please. Or money voluntarily contributed to a cause by a group of Good Samaritans.

It’s something else, however, when the money you’re handing out by the fistful to birds of a particular colour was squeezed out of folks who can barely afford to eat, let alone pay their rent. Worse, when the chosen recipients are neither deserving of charity, nor are themselves charitable in any way. This kind of charity is usually referred to as nepotism. Which I believe used to be contrary to law.

The real stories are the ones the film director is yet to tell but the ladies
with ice packs and 9-month-old receipts are there to show!

The hot word on the street right now (in local rum shops and on Facebook, too) concerns a self-proclaimed local Steven Spielberg with a not-so-secret penchant for painting the eyes of his leading ladies black. It seems he’s landed himself a juicy contract to produce, script, film and direct for the government a 90-minute movie called ‘Around the World in a Hundred Days’. (They couldn’t very well call it ‘Around the World In Eighty Days’, right? The last thing the film’s backers want to deal with at this stage is another damn lawsuit involving that Dominican penguin!)

By reliable account, the movie is being produced especially for the small screen. The lucky recipient landed the deal on the strength of his demonstrated talent for telling stories about other people that they would prefer remained untold! As for our other local moviemakers, they never stood a chance, their own awards notwithstanding.

Which goes to prove yet again, that it ain’t so much what you know that matters. Rather, it’s the stories you could tell about whom and whether or not they remain untold. If only Breezy had learned that lesson before he repainted Riri’s eyes a darker shade of blue!
