Close to two thousand persons turned out at the Old Airport runway in Vieux Fort more commonly called the Cacabef Sunday to witness the Grand Finals of the inaugural Guinness Street Football Challenge series put on by Windward and Leeward Brewery and Blackheart Productions.
After an enthralling display of football talent and skill, Fantastic of Soufriere were crowned champions defeating Rising Stars of Desruisseaux in the finals. In the semi-finals Fantastic won over Mines of Vieux Fort, while Rising Stars got past Roots International of Soufriere. Sixteen teams participated in the grand finals and for their victory Fantastic received $3000. Second placed Rising Stars took home $1500. Due to time constraints, the third place playoff was not played between Mines and Roots International. They agreed to share the prize money available for third place of $500 dollars. The captain of the winning team Fantastic was elated at their victory and dedicated it to the late Michael “Yata” Cazabon, an iconic sporting administrator in Soufriere who passed away recently.
