The STAR has confirmed four men are dead and one is in critical condition following an early morning police shooting in Vieux Fort today.
Dead is 35-year-old JnBaptiste MacFarlane alias Epic of La Clery. The STAR has been unable to confirm the identities of the three other deceased individuals.
Police sources reveal intelligence received indicated the men were planning to burglarize a small establishment near the Hewannorra Airport. A task force from Castries followed the men to Vieux Fort, waited for the incident to take place and then intervened.
There was an exchange of gunfire. The men attempted to flee aboard a private vehicle.
Police Commissioner Vernon Francois went to the scene in Vieux Fort.

POLICE SHOOTING
Police responded to a burglary in progress at Kitch Restaurant and Bar in Vieux Fort about 2:30am on Thursday 05th May, 2011. During the process, there was an exchange of gun fire which resulted in five individuals from La Clery, Castries being shot by the police. Four were fatally shot, namely:
1. John Baptiste Mc Farlan aka “Epic”
2. Mitchel Cadette, aka “Aparchie”
3. Allan Lenny Louisy, aka, “Alcapone”
4. Myron Dupal
One individual namely was shot in the leg and is presently admitted at the St. Jude’s hospital. A .45 pistol was also recovered from the scene.
The matter is being investigated by the Major Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department.
