The Saint Lucia Athletics Association congratulated members of the OECS Invitational Championship, for their outstanding performance in St Kitts & Nevis over the weekend.
The six member delegation (five athletes and one coach), captured one gold and three silver medals at the championship:
Albert Reynolds defended his title with a throw of 72.06 metres, to secure a gold medal in the mens open javelin. Olympian Darvin Edward captured silver in the mens high-jump with a height of 2.15 metres. Marbeq Edgar secured the silver medal in the mens open 800 metres, with a time of 1:57:38 seconds. Nicarge Arnold also captured a silver medal in the mens open long jump with a leap of 7.30 metres. This jump was also a personal best for Arnold.
Corneil Lionel was not among the medallists. He placed fifth in the 200 metre final with a time of 20.90 seconds, wind reading 4.7.
The athletes who participated in the OECS Invitational will now focus on the National Individual Track and Field Championships scheduled for June 22-23 at the George Odlum Stadium.
Reynolds and Edwards will use the National Championship to attempt to qualify for the World Championships set for August in Russia.
