[dropcap]G[/dropcap]uy Mayers is Saint Lucia’s new High Commissioner to London. Prime Minister Honourable Allen M. Chastanet in a statement to the House of Parliament yesterday announced that Mr. Mayers’ appointment has been approved by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. On behalf of the Government, the Prime Minister expressed congratulations to Mr. Mayers.

Before making the announcement the Prime Minister called on all Saint Lucians to put our country first; to be mindful of comments that could harm the country’s image. The Prime Minister was referring to statements that have been made in an attempt to hurt the reputation of the former Minister for Home Affairs and National Security.

Stated the Prime Minister: “We should be trying to get this country on its feet again not trying to bring her down. We have been open and transparent with the appointment of Mr. Mayers which is more than I can say for the appointment of previous ambassadors.”

Speaking of his appointment Mr. Mayers expressed thanks to the Prime Minister and the government and stated that he was honoured to hold the post.

“I look forward to pursuing and articulating the policies of the government,” said Mr. Mayers, “and to help attract foreign investment to our country. I am mindful of our current unemployment situation and I hope to facilitate opportunities for young people. I pledge to make my country proud.”

Mr. Mayers is a former president of the Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce and also a former minister for Trade and Commerce.
