Gros-Islet and VSADC in Youth League final

123

The VSADC Youth Academy and Gros Islet will clash on Sunday from 11:00 am in the finals of the Kids Access Northern Under-14 Youth League.

The two teams booked their places in the finals in very divergent fashion. The Gros Islet Under- 14 put on a very gutsy performance, against the highly favored First Touch Academy team who entered the finals with a 100 percent record. Trailing 2-1 going into the second half, Gros Islet staged a furious comeback with unrelenting waves of attacks on the First Touch goal. Their persistence was rewarded with literally the last kick of match when Samuel Lawrence scored his second goal of the game with a well placed shot. There were no goals during extra time but Gros Islet carried the momentum into the penalty kicks and eventually prevailed by 5-4.

The second semi final was a rematch of the Central Castries derby when VSADC took on Lancers FC. VSADC won the preliminary round encounter by 6-0 however; the Lancers FC team showed steely resistance and took the fight to their opponents. Nevertheless the more experienced VSADC team was able to sneak in a first half goal by super sub Simeon Francis.

The second half was also a see saw battle, but the diminutive Kennan Charles snatched on to a loose ball and fired home VSADC’s second goal to take his team to the finals.

This win gives VSADC an opportunity to even the score with Gros Islet after losing to them in the opening soccerama of the tournament.

The third place match and finals will take place at a venue to be confirmed. Parents, supporters and the general public are all invited to watch the young Under-14 footballers in action.
