The District One Primary Schools Football Competition, in which ten schools participated, came to a successful conclusion on Thursday, October 3 at the Sab playing facility.
In the first semi-final, Monchy got the better of Fond Assau 2–0. Their goals came from Marvinus Biscette in the 15th minute and Nirron Delice in the 24th minute.
In the second semi-final, defending champions Gros Islet made light work of Boguis 3–0. Traylan Henry got a brace in the 21st and 29th minutes with the other goal coming from Malik Louis in the 17th minute.
The third place play-off between Fond Assau and Boguis was an exciting encounter which ended in a goal-less draw. In the penalty shootout, Fond Assau emerged victorious 1–0 to clinch a trophy and the bronze medals.
The grand final played between Monchy and defending champions Gros Islet was an epic one, which was not reflected by the score line. However, despite missing a penalty, Gros Islet successfully defended their title 2–0.
Malik Louis scored in the 3rd minute of play while Devonte Herman hit the winner in the 27th minute. The result means that Gros Islet have won the competition on four consecutive occasions.
After the final, the following awards were presented: Best Goalkeeper, David Blackman (Gros Islet); Best Defender, Justie Jermaine (Gros Islet); Best Midfielder, Tavi Anthony (Monchy); Best Striker, Marvinus Biscette (Monchy); Most Goals, D’Andre Perez (Monchy).
The closing ceremony was addressed by Education Officer for District One, Cyrus Cepal; School Sports Co-ordinator at the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Isabel Marquis; and Michael Pierre representing the Saint Lucia Football Association Inc. They all lauded the schools and their supporters for their efforts and achievements throughout the three days of competition.
