Gunfire disturbs peace over the weekend

The past weekend was a very busy one for the police, as the issue of guns on the streets resurfaced over the past few days. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) responded to three separate non-fatal shooting incidents within the Castries basin over the weekend.

Friday, July 4, 2014, at about 8:45 pm, 20-year-old Quain Jn Louis of Leslie Land, Castries sustained multiple gunshots to the body, whilst on Chaussee Road, Castries. This incident has again raised concerns over gang-related criminal activity in the Castries area, although reports have not confirmed that the shooting was gang-related.

At approximately 7:45pm on Saturday, July 5, 2014, several shots were fired in the Fond Le Grand area. As a result, 51-year-old Michael Gustave of Fond Le Grand, Castries sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Then on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at about 8:30pm, an unknown person or persons discharged several shots in the Leslie Land area. As a result, Mary Claudia Francis of La Toc, Castries sustained a gunshot wound to the right leg.

Saturday and Sunday’s incidents again put into question the issue of public safety, as both victims were the unfortunate victims of shots fired in their direction.

The three victims of last weekend’s shootings were transported to the Victoria Hospital, where they were treated and admitted in stable conditions.

No one has been arrested in any of the incidents.
