Heineken Tennis Open underway

The Fifth Annual Heineken Tennis Open Tournament got underway Monday at the St Lucia Racquet and Country Club at Smugglers Cove Hotel Beach Resort and Spa.
Once again the premiere sponsor of this event Heineken, made a generous donation towards the competition in the form of a cheque presentation Friday morning at their office at Vide Boutielle.

Harry went on to say that Heineken is proud and honoured to collaborate with the St Lucia Racquet Club in presenting our sixth Tennis Open Tournament.
He praised the St Lucia Tennis Association (SLTA) for their dedication, commitment and passion for the sport and encouraged tennis enthusiasts and players to be part of this “prestigious event.”

No doubt about it. Players and even tourists vacationing here look to this tournament which is played at a high level.
On the court nine matches were completed on Monday. Local veteran tennis coach Titus Butcher based in Soufriere at Jalousie Hilton Resort Spa, defeated Anthony Roheman 6-3, 6-3; Derek Mogul got past Lester Alvis 6-2, 6-2; Keith Grenda (USA) was victorious over Anthony Bousquet 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
There was a marathon encounter between Vilan Edward and Kim Louis which lasted two and a half hours. In the end Louis came from behind and won 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. In other games, Denis Mauricette got the better of Dr Thushar Mirajka 6-3, 6-1. In the match of the evening which had everyone at the edge of their seats, Martin Satney defeated Conrad Lovell 6-4, 7-5.
In the ladies singles round robin draw, aftera nail biting first set Saoil Miztani (Japan) got past Solange Stanislaus
(on debut) 7-5, 6-2.
