Hello and Goodbye

We have been more than happy to have been the most discussed Newspaper on island and there is no doubt that we still are (see pages 8-9). Our readers too, come from near and far, like George Foreman photographed here reading his copy of the STAR. The Wednesday STAR may be no more after this issue
but it far from over for us. Stay tuned!

As editor of the STAR Newspaper it is with mixed feelings that I write and say my final goodbye—Not goodbye to the STAR but farewell to the final edition of the Wednesday STAR Newspaper. I say “mixed feelings” because while it is goodbye to one it is hello to another.

I am one of those who was very optimistic about the Wednesday STAR Newspaper when I came in as editor back in 2013, just about one year ago.

The mid-week paper in the past had gone through many changes and I came in armed to institute still more changes to make the paper even more attractive.  I, of course, had to contend with some of the content of the past that made the paper the talk of the town. These included our back page girls, Starlet of the Week, as well as our photo flashbacks and biting social commentary.

Under my watch we have introduced Michael Walker’s “Amusings” (also in the weekend STAR), HYPE by Kerwin Caesar (focusing on youth) as well as the four-page Sports Inc.         We also gave a new twist to the back page with catchy photos that made you look, made your think, made you laugh and sometimes simply made you go hmm or OMG!  All of these features have been pretty well received.

But back to my mixed feelings! While it will take me a while to adjust to not having to put the mid-week paper together, I am equally excited about putting together an even more amazing Weekend STAR for our readers, along with my editorial team. Look out for a twelve-page Sports Magazine in the “new” Weekend STAR and of course a more exciting 2NITE magazine that will get even hotter. Hype, Amusings and Rick Wayne’s column as well as great reports on the issues of the day will keep coming at you.

what can we say? Sure the economy has taken its toll on things as well as the way news is conveyed these days in the era of technology, smartphones and apps, but we are not about to roll over and play dead. Our Facebook pages as well as our STAR website www.stluciastar.com are alive and well, and we will continue to be aggressively use these avenues. Look out for Rick’s new video blog on our website too.

In short all that is left for me to say is goodbye Wednesday STAR and hello to a bigger and more dynamic Weekend STAR coming your way Saturday August 9,2014.
