The St Lucia Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) plans to make history, when the National Under-19 Team plays in the North America and Caribbean Rugby Association’s (NACRA) 15-a-side tournament to be held in Trinidad and Tobago from July 6 -13.
It will be the first time a St Lucia youth team will be participating in an international tournament. The SLRFU plans to give a good account of themselves. The team has been in training for some weeks now, as the players were taken through their paces to adequately prepare them physically, mentally, tactically and technically for the road ahead.
A management team consisting of Chantel John (manager,) Jerry Charles (coach) and Mc Garret Magloire (assistant coach) organized practice and classroom sessions for the young men. Several parent meetings were organized to cement the bonds among the rugby union, players and their families.
Some members of the squad are: Elvin Joseph, Ervin Joseph and Kendroy Simon (Laborie); Jahson Louison, Kensley Sonson and Lornelle Doxey (Micoud); Zayvon Augustin, Yan Augustin, Kyvon Alexander, Stephon ‘Jack’ Marquis and Valus Melius (Babonneau); Larry Eugene (Soufriere); Brandon Mathurin, Narjym Edward, Junior Hunter, Denio Phillip and Jamal Naitram (Castries).
In Trinidad, the team will play against Guyana, Bahamas and Turks and Caicos.
