The number of homicides in Saint Lucia so far for 2015 now stands at 12. This after a post mortem this week revealed that a young woman whose body was discovered in Soufriere last Sunday died as a result of physical trauma and asphyxia. Initially when the body was discovered it appeared that the woman, who was later identified as 32-year-old Yana Auguste of Reduit, had been involved in a vehicular accident. Her semi-nude body was discovered in the water near her partially submered red Suzuki Swift car that had apparently plunged over the cliff. The incident was said to have occurred sometime between 2 am and 3 am Sunday morning.
Family members from the onset had suspected foul play, telling reporters that Auguste would not have left work the night before and driven to Soufriere, nor would she have done it, if it was her intention, without informing anyone.
The young woman was employed with Cap Maison located at Cap Estate.
When Auguste’s body was discovered there appeared to be injuries to the head. She was pronounced dead by a medical doctor. On Tuesday, June 14, 2015 a post mortem examination conducted on the body revealed that she died as a result of physical trauma and asphyxia. The police have since launched a full investigation into the matter. However, no one has since been arrested in connection with Yana Auguste’s death.
