Yet another new technique has been introduced to the services offered at Tapion Hospital. Hysteroscopy is the inspection of the uterine cavity by endoscopy (a fibre optic scope) with access gained through the cervix. It allows for both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

These include looking for uterine (endometrial) cancer, removal of uterine polyps and submucous fibroids, sterilization (tubal occlusion) , the investigation of abnormal uterine bleeding and  the removal of lost/embedded intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCD’s).

Dr Nadia Samuel has significant experience in this technique having been a research fellow at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital (U.K). There she investigated the applications of this technique, with her work being published in peer reviewed journals. She is pleased to offer this service to the women of St Lucia.
