Jasmin Deane, creator, with her Jazzy’s All Natural products.

[dropcap]J[/dropcap]asmin Deane lives in Saint Vincent and had the opportunity to bring her products to be displayed in Saint Lucia. She was an absolute delight to speak to and her story was inspiring to me. Her products felt and smelled wonderful with hints of coconut, vanilla, papaya and many other plants that are healthy for skin and hair. Here’s what she had to say:

How did your business start and where did the idea come from?

Jasmin: Oh! I believe it was divine inspiration. I originally owned a printery and my father was all my inspiration and motivation for maintaining the business. When he passed away I went through a rough period of depression. I didn’t have any feeling to continue what I was doing. Then, I gave my life to Christ and everything changed for the better. God started building me up from inside and healed me. One day I was watching a television commercial about handmade soaps and I felt a strange sensation about it. That night I could not sleep because I felt like it was a calling. The next day I went to stores in town and got all the natural ingredients needed to make soap. Then I shared it with my friends and family and everyone started asking for more. That’s how it started.

How did your business grow after that?

Jasmin: Well, I experimented with new soaps, creams, body butters, etc. Eventually I had enough products to set up a stall in town. But my actual breaking moment was when a local journalist and reporter shared my story with the country on a television show. Everyone wanted to know about my products, even the prime minister! It started getting more and more popular. Thankfully, now my products are on shelves all over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

How do you like the experience in Saint Lucia?

Jasmin: I’m enjoying it so much. I came here with an open mind but I knew that a lot of people make soaps here. I didn’t know what to expect. But everybody seems to be interested in the products and they’ve been saying they really like them. People came to me saying that someone else told them about the products. I was in awe. I didn’t think the response would be this great and I’m really pleased.

Do you think that this craft is something you will be doing for a very long time?

Jasmin: Certainly, yes. It’s something that I’m really passionate about. It’s not even about
the money, but the joy and satisfaction it brings when people come back to say how much they love the products. God has blessed my hands and me abundantly and it is always a pleasure to use his blessings to bring some light to other people. I believe in using natural products that are good for hair, skin and the environment.
