Doctors were unable to save the right leg of Jeremiah Norbert —the Saint Lucia Labour Party candidate for Micoud North, who was injured in a motorcycle accident on February 17. After receiving initial care in Saint Lucia, he travelled to Martinique on February 22 where he underwent a number of operations.
The ex-police officer provided an update on his situation today, March 14 during a Facebook Live: “Unfortunately, the doctors were unable to save the leg. This by no means is a hindrance or is a deterrent for the journey that I’ve embarked on. I would like persons to know and understand that this is just God working through me to show other persons that we can achieve absolutely anything, with or without a leg.”
The political newcomer remains committed to contesting the upcoming general election. He is confident in his chances: “I want to reassure my constituents of Micoud North, that Jeremiah Norbert is going to be their next representative at the next general election and there is no doubt about it!”
Norbert urged supporters not to feel discouraged because of his medical condition and thanked well-wishers for the outpouring of love. The love and support has kept him going, he stated. Norbert is expected to remain in Martinique for a few more weeks but says that he looks forward to returning home to continue his journey.
“I’m very, very excited to continue,” he said. “Right now I think God has broadened my scope in terms of giving me a broader network of persons to deal with…I understand what it is for them [the disabled] and I feel right now I’m in a position to represent and advocate for persons on their behalf.”
He added: “I am committed to serving you my constituents of Micoud North. I embarked on this journey with the sole intention of making the lives of persons of Micoud North better. Today…I feel now more than ever, a heightened sense of commitment to ensure that my persons are properly represented and that Micoud North is once again recognized on the map; that Micoud North finds its rightful place on the map of Saint Lucia!”
Norbert stated that his recovery is going well and encouraged Saint Lucians to continue to pray for him.
