Junior Achievement Rewards Outstanding Students

Junior Achievement St. Lucia held its 18th Annual Awards Ceremony on Tuesday September 16th 2014, at the National Cultural Centre, under the patronage of the Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy. Several students and Secondary School Companies were awarded for their outstanding performance, while all participating Primary Schools were presented with certificates.

This year, students participating in the popular JA Company Program were involved in businesses such as: recycling, catering, restaurant services, production of book covers, manufacturing of beaded items and drama.

It was a very successful year for several schools that captured awards in different categories at the ceremony. The categories included: Company of the Year, National Achiever of the Year, Best Records, Best Attendance, Highest Rate on Investment and Sales Person of the year.

Company of the Year; Vide Boutielle Secondary School National Achiever of the Year; Ms. Phebe Alexander, Choiseul Secondary School Governor General’s Award for Originality, Innovation and Creativity; Choiseul Secondary School

The most exciting part of the ceremony’s program was the presentation of Awards to the National Top Achiever which brought much joy to the Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School, as Ms. Phebe Alexander captured the 1stplace title. In 2ndplace was Ms. Kaziah Mondesir of the Corinth Secondary School while Ms. Noami Frederick of the SDA Academy came in 3rdplace.

The Vide Bouteille Secondary School received the prestigious title of “Company of the Year” for receiving the highest rank from each category. The 1st and 2nd runners up for (COY) were Choiseul Secondary School and Piaye Secondary School respectively.

The final award was the Governor General’s Award for Originality, Innovation and Creativity and this esteemed award was captured by the Choiseul Secondary School.

The featured guest speaker Dr. James Fletcher; Minister of Sustainable Development, Science & Technology in his address encouraged the youth to capitalize on the opportunities being afforded to them such as technology and further urged them to use these opportunities as a means of furthering themselves entrepreneurially.

Junior Achievement St. Lucia is thankful for the support received from volunteers, partners from the corporate community, teachers and principals. Without your support, the JA program would not be the success that it is today.
