St Lucia Junior Golf Club members gave a good account of themselves at the recently concluded St Lucia Golf Open which took place at the Cap Estate Golf Course. The competition attracted over 80 golfers.
The local junior players consisted of five males: Dominique Monrose, Tyrik Belle, Daronhil Mauricette, Jonathan Bruce, Marcus Brizio along female players Jade Brown, Akeba Mendes, Tiala Scott and Zanaii Taylor. They competed in the St Lucia Open’s 18 hole and nine hole divisions.
Commenting on their play, Club Secretary and Public Relations Officer, Danille Morille proudly stated “it was a wonderful achievement for the juniors, who played for the first time in the Open since the club’s inception in 2009.
Earlier this month four of our boys Monrose, Bruce, Dylan and Mauricette played in the Caribbean Junior Open Golf Championship at the St Andrew’s Golf Club in Trinidad. Last year (July), Mauricette and Bruce played on the OECS team in the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships in Barbados.
The members are coached by Golf Professionals Tim Mangal and Chris Taylor. They teach the fundamentals of golf during the week and on Saturdays take the young golfers out on the course.
For anyone interested in joining the club, the age range is six to 18. Please visit the St Lucia Golf Club in Cap Estate on a Wednesday or Friday from 4:00 pm t0 5:30 pm to register.
