[dropcap]S[/dropcap]hortly after losing the 2016 general elections to Allen Chastanet and the United Workers Party, Kenny Anthony handed over to Philip J Pierre the reins he had held for a little over fifteen consecutive years. It has become a guessing game among the public, when Anthony will show up for House meetings and for how long. As far as I’ve been able to uncover, he normally absents himself from the SLP’s weekly press conferences. He was quite conspicuous on Tuesday, when he joined regulars Ernest Hilaire, the party leader Philip J. Pierre and four other party brethren at their conference table. More than once he chuckled at comments demeaning of the prime minister.
His responses to attendant media personnel were especially short. At best two or three sentences. When one reporter told him, “We hope to see you more often,” Anthony shook his head, signalling the reporter hoped in vain. Asked why he had remained almost invisible since Allen Chastanet and Philip J. Pierre replaced him as prime minister and party leader respectively, Anthony again dispassionately shook his head to suggest “no comment”.
