The Kiwanis Club of Castries hosted the 2nd Divisional Council Meeting of Division 27 of the Eastern Canada & Caribbean District of Kiwanis International last Saturday 28th February at Coco Kreole in Rodney Bay under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Ian Estwick of Barbados. Clubs from Antigua, St. Kitts, Dominica, Barbados, Martinique and host country St. Lucia were represented. Past EC&C District Governor Gary Levine from Canada attended, updating clubs on the latest work of Kiwanis International.

At the meeting clubs reported on the successful projects undertaken for the last quarter and exchanged ideas as to how best tailor these projects to adapt to respective locales. Lieutenant Governor Ian Estwick reminded all clubs that, as Kiwanis International celebrates its 100th anniversary, all clubs worldwide were mandated to undertake at least one project focusing on Kiwanis International theme “Serving The Children of The World”.

In this connection the local Kiwanis Chapter signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Lady Gordon Opportunity Centre for the club to refurbish the school playground and parts of the school’s infrastructure. Youth services Chairman and President Elect of the Kiwanis Club of Castries Michael Lascaris spoke of repairing swings and slides and refurbishing the school toilets, as well as building new lunch tables and benches at a cost of approximately EC $10,000.

Ms. Linda Preville, Principal of the Lady Gordon Opportunity Centre expressed her sincere thanks to the club.
