As the Chamber continues to respond to the expressed needs of its members, this important and well received workshop has been convened; “Know Your Labour Code.” On Janaury 31st, 2019 and February 6th, 2019, at the Coco Creole Hotel powerful, informative and practical sessions guiding employers on how to handle some key areas of the Labour Code will take place. Facilitated by the Law Offices of Goddard-Dorville Legal, members of the Business Community will participate in this engaging and rewarding learning experience.

Goddard-Dorville Legal will walk members through the Legislation, its application and most of all share, some recommended approaches and templates that will bring significant clarity and thereafter ease and comfort in what can sometimes be a bothersome component in employer-employee relations. With years of experience in this field of practice with outstanding results and a firm understanding of the issues, case law and precedent, members of the Chamber will leave empowered to work within the Law and treat employees fairly.

Executive Director of the Chamber Brian Louisy, says, “The Chamber continues its efforts at responding to the needs of members while at the same time keeping members ahead of the curve by providing services that ensure members are in the forefront of best practice and innovation on an ongoing basis”. The Chamber will for instance be hosting a workshop on Business Continuity Planning in February to help members mitigate risks associated with unfortunate events that could otherwise cripple their business.

Goddard-Dorville Legal which will be facilitating the Know Your Labour Code Workshop, was established in August 2017, of which the principal attorney-at-law has been practicing in Saint Lucia since 2005. Mrs. Cheryl Goddard-Dorville is a known attorney whose practice extends across Saint Lucia and the wider Caribbean. Interpretation/Compliance with Local Laws and Regulations, Employment/Labor Laws and Due Diligence are a few of the topics Goddard-Dorville Legal has consulted upon, written about and defended over the years.

In the two-part workshop, participants can expect a thorough lecture on the history of the Act and context-based approaches to critical laws. The intimate lecture setting will offer ample opportunity for business leaders to engage the facilitator with important questions and concerns. The afternoon session will allow businesses to take a closer look at their current employee contracts and administrative letters and offers an opportunity to update these documents and practices in accordance with their rights and responsibilities.

Members of the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce have shown a keen interest in the subject and as such a second Workshop on the same topic will be held on February 6th 2019, to accommodate the large number of interested participants. The Chamber is confident that the Workshop will positively impact members and lead to its members continuing to work within the legal framework more confidently.
